Experience Cape Campbell

Experience Cape Campbell offers exclusive self catered stays in the original lighthouse keepers huts, purchased by the Peter family after the national automation of Lighthouses in the late 1980’s, ending the need for a manned station. These have over the years been renovated in typical kiwiana style, it is an ideal place to escape the busy outside world and relax. Weather you are one or many, once booked you will have the place all to your self. With no neighbours for miles and only fur seals for company you will feel in another world.

The complex consists of four buildings; The Cottage, The Cow Shed, The Singleman’s and the Weather Office. Unless you are in a large group, you will be set up in the main Cottage and adjacent sleeping quarters “The Cow Shed”.  All buildings have power & water, also there is good cell phone coverage on the site. The Cottage and Singleman’s are equipped with bathroom and kitchen which has most crockery and cutlery. Whilst the Cow Shed and Weather Office offer beds. Capable of sleeping a total of twelve people, we can usually cater to most families or group needs.

Spend time looking through the buildings with photos and displays conveying the rich history of the area. This Pacific coastline has been a bountiful place to settle since the days of the moa hunter. Known to the local iwi as “Te Karaka”, the area shows evidence of Maori occupation for some 800 years. Rich in European history, from sealers and whalers, to the establishment of the first large scale pastoral sheep station in 1847 – Flaxbourne Station.

With the setting of the sun, the night revels a sky bursting with southern stars and time to reflect. Slowly make your way into one of our warm beds watched over by the majestic Cape Campbell Lighthouse, providing light and safe passage to sailors since 1870. You’ll drift away to the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean.

Artists, functions, friends & family

“Here is a place where inspiration abounds. The wild, changeable weather captures you – then a calm day with beautiful skies entices you to put down on paper what you feel. An emotional, spiritual place that draws you in. A truely memorable isolated piece of paradise, the edge of the world that seems to reject all attempts to populate it”.

Birthdays, weddings, team building, club functions. We have accommodated all these functions in the past. Please enquire if our location appeals for your special occasion.
